Torne
River in focus of international wild salmon studies
"Comparative
study of wild salmon management in Scotland, Norway, Sweden
and Finland". Salmon Rivers is the project that is part
of the Northern Periphery project.
The aim of the project is to study and compare how salmon
stocks are managed in sea, coast and rivers. Torne River
is the river of concern in the Swedish-Finnish sub-project.
The project ends with a final international conference
in Saltdal, Norway, at the end of August 2001. The total
budget of the project is approximately 400 000 euro. In
September 2000 a conference was held in Haparanda, Sweden,
and the topic of this conference was management of the
Baltic salmon. The event was regarded as highly successful
and received attention in the media.
